OBJECTIVES
Assess the structural condition of the two existing floodlighting high masts, which were approximately 30 years old, and take into account NDT testing results to perform calculations on the masts and floodlight carriage, ensuring adequacy for the installation of new Philips Lighting LED floodlights.

WORK CARRIED OUT
A site visit, including comprehensive visual inspections from ground level and at high altitude, structural calculations, and providing ongoing advice to MLS on solutions to address several identified structural strength issues during the surveys.
CHALLENGES
The new Philips LED floodlights were significantly heavier and had a different wind area compared to the existing HID floodlights. This necessitated strength checks on the existing floodlighting carriage before the LED floodlights could be installed. While the masts and the raise and lower system were in good condition, different dimensions and mounting arrangements for the new floodlight mounting arrangement were required, and so an alternative solution was suggested and trialled.
RESULTS
The final report was completed and issued within two days of being on-site, enabling the installation to commence in the same week, thereby minimising both time and costs on-site.
